The Heartbeat of Community

When Kindness Becomes Contagious

Walk This Way… for a Cause (1st Sundays Edition)

What a wonderful morning of community spirit at the Fun Walk/Run at Peter Pan Park in Dunvegan!

A huge, heartfelt Thank you to 1st Sundays for organising such a fantastic event and choosing to support the Edenvale Care Centre Hospice. Your effort, energy and kindness truly mean the world to us.

To every walker, runner, cheerleader, early-morning riser and generous supporter who came out to take part, you showed what community is all about. Every step taken yesterday helped us continue caring for those who need it most.
There’s something quite magical about people gathering in a park, lacing up their takkies, strollers ready and walking/running with purpose. Yesterday was filled with smiles, good vibes, and a whole lot of heart and we are incredibly grateful.

From all of us at Edenvale Care Centre Hospice, Thank you for walking this journey with us!

Tribute to Ashley Brokensha
(former member of the iconic band Ballyhoo)

Ashley Brokensha, musician and former member of the iconic 80’s band, Ballyhoo, passed away on 6th February 2026 at the Edenvale Care Centre Hospice.

In his honour, a number of his close musician friends generously offered to perform for free, coming together to raise funds for the Care Centre.

Bernerd Blom from ‘Just Blom Events’ did it AGAIN, the man is relentless!!! Together with Ashley’s good mate and talented fellow muso, Gavin Langeveldt, and the incredibly ‘all hands in’ assistance from the guys at The Edenvale Bowling Club, they pulled off The Most Amazing Evening, with Unforgettable Musicians.

Bernerd said ‘Once again the Vale has stepped up to helping local charities.

The event scheduled for Feb 24 at Edenvale Bowling Club has been sold out. COMPLETELY.

Thanks to Gavin Langeveldt and the talented line up of musicians that he has managed get together to Celebrate the Life of Ashely Brokensha and to raise money for Edenvale Care Centre Hospice.

I am more and more impressed with the Valers and their friends every day.

Yes there are some “Ill let you knowers” who don’t have any intention of joining, but thats one or two here or there.

But as for the rest, you folks are starts.’

Huuuuge Thanks to Robbie Aspelling for donating his time and taking the most striking and memorable pics. Check them out on; https://robbieaspeling.pixieset.com/hospicefundraiser/

Bottling Up Kindness

We had the most wonderfully whimsical Saturday The Garden Gallery & Café, turning ordinary bottles into colourful little masterpieces!

With paintbrushes in hand and plenty of giggles along the way, we gathered under the creative guidance of Kathy van Holthoon, whose infectious enthusiasm made the day extra special.

Best of all, our arty adventure helped raise funds for the amazing Edenvale Care Centre Hospice, proving that a splash of paint (and a lot of heart) can make a beautiful difference!

Krish Vaswani, Adam Peer & Jason Joseph from
St John's College at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club - 31st January 2026

We are overflowing with gratitude and pride!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to 16 year old Krish Vaswani from St. John’s College, who on his own initiative gathered two incredible friends, Adam Peer and Jason Joseph, and set out to make a difference. Earlier this month, these three remarkable young men raised an astounding R24 000 for Edenvale Care Centre Hospice at the beautiful Royal Johannesburg.

And what a difference they have made! With the proceeds, they:

Purchased R10 000 worth of electricity for the Centre
Settled our chemist bill — and even left us with credit.

Bought nappies to the tune of R4 000.

This is what compassion in action looks like. This is leadership. This is heart
We are truly in awe of these young men and the kindness, maturity, and generosity they have shown. The future is brighter because of young men like Krish, Adam, and Jason.
Thank you for reminding us that love, initiative, and community spirit are alive and thriving. We are so very grateful.
